Now I must say that this review is about the movies Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh but its more about Vijay Devarakonda and Shahid Kapoor :))))
So both the movies show a hot dude who is an Alpha male, who chose his girl, and took her to his den... And the girl, lucky her, she enjoys the ride, and the perks of being with him. And the story continues with its twists and turns.
Now my feminist review on the story:
I loved VD as the Alpha male hot dude :). Shahid was also close, but VD is VD.... , there is no Arjun Reddy without VD. What i liked about the character was:
Him wanting to take care of Preeti and his dedication towards her
His simplicity in choosing an average looking girl and being honest to her
Him wanting to take care of Preeti during her PMS time... Thats cute
Him going to the operation theatre half awake and still ending up saving someone's life
What I did not like was:
The average looking girl had to be dumb with barely a couple of dialogs... I get the fact that guys prefer girls who don't talk a lot. But that doesn't happen in reality. Girls talk.. its in their DNA to talk. So I absolutely didn't get this part.
Him not falling for Jia Sharma. Jia was an absolutely nicely played character in the movie. She is successful and famous and yet falls for him. And she takes care of him like he did to Preeti. But Arjun Reddy doesn't like being taken care of... what a pity.
Arjun Reddy talking about fat girls being a good combo for Preeti... Dude Preeti aka Shalini is also fat...
Comparing the Telugu and Hindi cast:
Again VD is VD, but Shahid come close. This is a good break for Shahid after a dry patch
Kiara is incomparably better than Shalini.
Kanchana did a great job as grandma, but the hindi version was .... below average
Both the Jias were good.
The elder brothers did a good job in both movies
Shiva's character was amazingly good in Telugu but very stupidly done in hindi. That guy in Hindi version was so uncomfortable when delivering the PMS dialog. Pathetic.
All said and done Kabir Singh was still a bit hit in the North, even with all the shortcomings. Whereas Arjun Reddy was flawless. An eye pleaser for a feminist like me ;).
